The Department for Transport have today announced the allocations of the £6 billion in funding to tackle potholes and to improve local roads.

£4.7 billion will be shared between 115 Councils, the allocations can be found here.

A further £575 million will be available through the Challenge Fund. The remaining £578 million which is set aside for an Incentive Fund Scheme will start in 2016.

CIHT are encouraged by the additional funding this outlines and the increased certainty of continuity of capital funding. CIHT believe that certainty, and continuity of investment over a sustained period is essential if overall improvements to the transport network are to be delivered effectively and efficiently.

CIHT’s response to the DfT’s consultation on local authority highways maintenance funding: 2015/16 – 2020/21 can be found here.
