On Thursday 6 December, CIHT London Young Professionals Committee held the annual Christmas Quiz, at Doggett’s Coat and Badge pub, Blackfriars, and a wonderful evening was had by all.
Following a few bumps in the road at last year’s quiz we decided on a new venue this year and Doggett’s function room provided an excellent space for our teams, with stunning views over the river Thames. Our own private bar and the friendly staff keeping us quenched throughout the evening helped the evening go smoothly, even when their tills went down!
As the teams piled in and took their seats the atmosphere was welcoming and jovial, and the brief period before the quiz started allowed everyone to mingle and get to know each other. The quiz kicked off with two rounds on Current Transport Affairs and then Films, before stopping for a bite to eat and a chance to network. After a 45 minute break we continued, with three more rounds on Geography, General Knowledge and (obviously) Christmas, as well as two picture rounds which were handed out at the start.
Finally it was time to announce the winners, and it was a big congratulations to the Chelsea Tractors from the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. They each went home with a bottle of wine whilst our unfortunate losers went home with the obligatory wooden spoon.
It’s also worth mentioning some of the brilliant team names we had this year, one that particularly stood out was ‘Get your baubles off my road’ (nope, me neither), but every year the team names get more creative which just adds to the fun.
We had six teams, from WSP, Markides Associates, Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, Steer, Jacobs and the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety, so there was a wide variety of industry professionals in attendance.
So all in all, it was a success and we’ve had some great feedback from some of our guests which makes all the hard work in organising the event worth it. Thank you to everyone who attended, and an extra special thank you to those members of the Young Professionals Committee who pulled together to make this quiz a success; Ramon Espin Izquierdo (our wonderful Quiz Master), Christina Spiliopoulou, Sarah Hoad, Daniel Tarry and Annika Davies.
Here’s to the next one!
