Following today’s publication of the Alan Cook review of the Strategic Roads Network, the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation, who were pleased to be able to input into the review, welcome the following key recommendations:

  • A long term strategy for motorway and trunk roads;
  • Highways Agency to be more independent and the Department for Transport to provide a more strategic role;
  • Movement away from an annual funding cycle to a five year programme;
  • An outcome-based specification for the current network;

The Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation believe delivery of these recommendations will provide a more effective and efficient strategic network for the future.
