The end of the year is a time of reflection, a chance to think about what you have achieved over the past 12 months and what you want to achieve in the year ahead. This is why it’s also the end of the CPD year for CIHT Members and time to make sure you have met the CPD requirements and your CPD record is up to date.

All CIHT Members (apart from retired members, student members and honorary fellows) are required to plan, undertake and record at least 25 hours of CPD every year. The CPD you undertake can range from undertaking qualifications to attending a webinar to reading. What’s important is that it helps you to develop the skills and knowledge you need as a highways and transportation professional. Have you recorded at least 25 hours of CPD in your CPD record for this year?
As a professional body, CIHT has a role to play to make sure Members are meeting their CPD target and a random sample of Members will be written to in January and asked to submit their CPD record and Development Action Plan for 2021. Make sure your records are up to date in case you’re asked to submit your records. You can submit your CPD record in any format including those you submit for other professional bodies. However, if you’re not already recording CPD, we would encourage you to use the CIHT CPD template. In 2022 we will be introducing a new online CPD recording platform as part of CIHT Learn which will make it even easier to keep track of your CPD – watch this space!
Whilst most of us are now quite familiar with recording CPD, not everyone is so used to planning their CPD. CIHT Members are encouraged to complete a Development Action Plan every year, and now is the perfect time to do it for next year. The Development Action Plan is a chance to reflect on your strengths and weaknesses and set yourself professional development goals and a plan to achieve them.
CIHT offers lots of opportunities to undertake your CPD and once you’ve written your Development Action Plan you might want to look at what events are coming up next year which will help you to achieve your goals or if there is a professional qualification you want to work towards or if you could develop your skills through volunteering.
