Leading transport consultant AECOM is on a recruitment drive to beef up its European team and expand the services the division provides.
Jobs on offer include Senior Transport Planning Consultant opportunities based in St Albans and Development Planning roles based in London and St Albans, and the hunt for new personnel has included the hiring of close to 100 new graduates from this year’s university leavers. In all managing director Richard Robinson (pictured) wants to bring 250 extra staff into his 1200 strong European Transportation Business.
“We are actively recruiting at all levels,” he said “and we are delighted that our graduate recruitment campaign has been so successful. The current intake has just completed their induction day and we will be looking to hire more in the next year.
“In this type of business your people are your life blood. You have to manage a flow of talent with an eye on the future. Not doing that will affect you in negative ways, not least you will have a problem winning work,” he said.
“We are employing people to work in the civil, structural and transport planning fields. And we want energetic, outward facing types.”
The company needs its staff to be able to engage and empathise with clients who are demanding more from their consultants. “We want to be at the very front of mind when major projects are being planned and known for producing knock out quality,” Mr Robinson explained.
“There is a lot of work to do here,” he continued. “We want to be number one in Europe for transport and we have some way to go to achieve that. But we have nascent operations in the growth markets in Europe to build on.
“For example we have been appointed to produce a master plan and development strategy for the national transportation system in Romania. The master plan will have a short, medium and long term outlook and will contain infrastructure and policy instruments for all transport modes.
The national transport model developed as part of the project will provide the analytical support for funding applications to the EU Cohesion Fund for the 2014-2020 programming period.
It will subsequently help unlock potential funding of hundreds of millions of Euro for Romania’s infrastructure.
