Transport, road maintenance and social infrastructure services firm Enterprise has been bought by Amey parent Ferrovial. The Enterprise business will be combined with Amey to create an organisation employing 21,000 and with revenues of over £2.3Bn.
The deal does not include purchase of Enterprise’s 50% share of integrated highways services joint venture EnterpriseMouchel which has been sold to Mouchel. Amey already delivers that service through its own consulting, asset management and delivery teams, the company said.
Enterprise brings revenues of £1.1Bn to Amey and 9,600 employees. Once European Commission approval for the deal is gained Enterprise will be integrated into Amey “which will generate cost and revenue synergies estimated at around £40M” the company said.
“Public and regulated clients are seeking radical reform in the shape of more efficient services,” said Amey chief executive officer Mel Ewell who will take on the same role at the combined company. The deal, he said, “will ensure that the combined company can deliver a truly transformational service”.
EnterpriseMouchel has been trading for seven years and employs 1300 staff with only three Enterprise secondees. Turnover in July 2012 was £209.7M, an increase of 23.7% on the previous year. The company recently won the south area Highways Alliance Contract with Transport for London that it says “effectively” added £500M to its forward order book which now stands at £813M.
It is currently incumbent on the Area 1 (Devon and Cornwall) and Area 13 (Cumbria and Lancashire) MACs for the Highways Agency. Its Area 3 (Central and Southern) MAC is currently out to tender under the new Asset Support Contract arrangements.
