The IHT Annual Luncheon 2008 was held today at the Great Room of the Grosvenor House Hotel and was once again the highlight of the IHT calendar.  Attended by over 1800 transportation professionals, the venue was filled to capacity for this exciting social and networking event.

The Principal Guest this year was Steve Norris, former Minister of Transport and currently a Board member for the Transport for London and he was joined by our Guest Speaker Fergal Keane, former BBC South Africa Correspondent.

IHT Past-President David Hutchinson spoke on behalf of current President David Tarrant who was unfortunately taken ill prior to the event. David Hutchinson shared details of IHT’s current work and inspirational plans for the future. Featured amongst IHT’s achievements this year were the move to new state of the art offices, the delivery of a number of well attended technical seminars and conferences and the launch of the new Transport Planning Professional qualification. There was also much success with the recently launched technical guidelines ‘Road Safety Audit’ and the annual IHT Awards provided the opportunity to highlight and reward innovation and best practice.

The prestigious event also provided an opportunity for IHT to announce a number of new initiatives. In line with the Institution's stance on Professional Development, IHT was pleased to announce the launch of a new IHT website that will have many new features for members, including access to free publications, electronic registration, payment and access to events, the opportunity to set preferences, sign up for newsletters and the ability to manage your IHT subscriptions online.

Many agreed that it was an inspiring and celebratory luncheon with hopeful anticipation for the future of IHT and that the day signalled a successful end to a year of many changes and challenges.
