Contractors working for the Highways Agency have been congratulated for their efforts to drive down costs, improve quality and operate safely. Five category winners were named last Thursday in the Agency’s second annual ‘supplier recognition scheme’.
Amey and a Costain / Carillion joint venture shared the honours in an award to recognise achievements in reducing costs and improving value; the former for work on the Area 9 Managing Agent Contractor contract and the latter on the M1 improvement scheme between junctions 10 and 13 in Bedfordshire.
Enterprise Mouchel won a supply chain management award for developing extended supply chains and achieving British Standards accreditation for collaborative business relationships.
Tarmac and the Costain / Carillion joint venture both picked up awards for Health & Safety and Amey received an award for ‘building and sustaining capability’ in recognition of a scheme to recruit young people and improve the skills of employees.
Balfour Beatty picked up an award for sustainable development for its work on the A46 Newark-on-Trent to Widmerpool scheme in Nottinghamshire (pictured) for initiatives including a zero waste to landfill policy.
Vehicle recovery specialist FMG received a special commendation for providing additional support in incident clearance during this summer’s Olympic and Paralympic Games.
In all 57 entries were received for the five award categories. Highways Agency chief executive Graham Dalton said: “We are very proud to be able to publicly congratulate those suppliers who have clearly demonstrated innovation and effectiveness.”
