The PBAJV picked up the Special Recognition Award for Sustaining our Society at the Bently 2012 Be Inspired Awards last week in Amsterdam.

Regarded as the highest honour in  leading infrastructure software provider Bentley’s awards programme, the Special Recognition Award recognises outstanding achievement – representing the best of the best and chosen from a competitive field of entries from across the world.

The Brisbane Airport Link projects are one of the largest road and transport infrastructure schemes in Australia’s history.

Private finance concessionaire BrisConnections was appointed by the Queensland Government to deliver The $4.8Bn (£3Bn) Airport Link, Northern Busway (Windsor to Kedron) and Airport Roundabout Upgrade. The project includes two tunnels and a new 6.7km mainly underground toll road to the airport, the busway and an upgraded interchange providing improved access to the Brisbane Airport precinct. PBAJV was lead designer.

“A truly collaborative effort was required to deliver 1,500 separate design packages and more than 35,000 design drawings,” said the PBAJV design team. “Over 1000 PBAJV team members worked more than one million man hours to design the project and provide construction phase support with specialist design professionals mobilised around the world.”

Bentley software is used for aiding design of many of the world’s major infrastructure schemes and the awards are intended to showcase what the software can achieve and celebrate its successful use.

The Bentley solutions that were used for the design included MicroStation, InRoads, Structural Modeler and gINT. The team also used project collaboration document control system ProjectWise.
