Since 2003, long distance coach operators offering older and entitled disabled people half price coach travel in England have been eligible to claim Bus Service Operators Grant (BSOG) from the Department for Transport (DfT).

As part of the Government's measures to reduce the budget deficit, it was announced in the Spending Review 2010 that long distance coach operators' eligibility to claim BSOG would be ended by October 2011. This cut forms part of a wider set of cuts to Department for Transport funding, including a cut of 20 per cent in the BSOG rate from April 2012.

A full regulatory impact assessment examining the effects of ending the Bus Service Operators Grant (BSOG) coach concession can be found here.
