Experts in the field attended the event including a number of technical experts from CIHT's Technology & Innovation Panel.
Sue Sharland, Chair of the CIHT's T&I Panel introduced the session. This was then followed by Kate Carpenter, Chair of the CIHT Road Safety Panel. Listen to a podcast with Kate on the Safety of Autonomous Vehicles
here. Kate has just completed a degree in Psychology so brought a very human dimension to how people might respond to the technology.
Stelios Rodoulis, a member of the CIHT T&I Panel provided an overview of issues associated with maintenance and what road administrations might need to do to support autonomous vehicles touching on opportunities for collecting more data on road condition from the vehicles themselves.
Brian Wong, from Burges Salmon then gave a fascinating insight into the legal issues drawing on the recently published
Ventura report. Then a very real world example was covered by Anthony Ferguson from the Department for Transport demonstrating the technologies that are being explored through the A2/M2 pilot. The event then finished with workshops run in collaboration with DG Greenwich and were supported by Lynn Basford T&I Panel member and Ben Morris.
The presentation slides and recordings are available to CIHT members.
