Cities, towns and villages across the globe will be encourage citizens to leave the car at home and enjoy their local area without the pollution, noise and stress of car traffic, and alternative modes of transport. Hundreds of cities and towns will be taking part.

In London the initiative has been branded as “Reimagine” with more than 20 kilometres of closed roads around Tower Bridge, London Bridge and the City of London. Similar events are taking place across the UK and beyond.
Whilst the major world cities may take the limelight, the City of Bogota in Columbia has led the way in car fee days since 1974. The Ciclovía, sees upwards of two million people taking to the streets to walk, cycle, skate enjoy a traffic free environment every Sunday. This has now been taken further with concept for a global movement “World Car Free Day” first being launched at the Ciudades Accesibles Congress in 1994. Two years later Reyjavik in Iceland, Bath in the UK and La Rochelle in western France embraced the idea of spending one day without cars in order to study and reflect upon the lessons learn and the movement has grown ever since.
