The Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT) is seeking a new Chief Executive.
CIHT is a learned society concerned with the planning, design, construction, maintenance and operation of transport systems and infrastructure, seeking to advance the science and art associated with highways and transportation and to promote education, training, research and development. A charity as well as membership organisation, CIHT delivers seminars on cutting edge research and current practice, offers routes to professional qualifications, supports members and builds partnerships to influence policy makers and address key transport challenges.
The Institution has grown in size and stature, as have the challenges it faces. Raising standards and setting a benchmark for good practice remain as important as ever. It is now looking for a new Chief Executive to succeed Mary Lewis after a successful decade at the helm, to manage a turnover of £2.1m lead a staff team of 23 based in London and support 19 branches in the UK and the Republic of Ireland together with overseas branches.
Candidates will have proven experience in senior roles, with skills to manage and develop a small team. They will have the intellectual capacity to handle a broad range of policy issues, strong communication skills, and the ability to work closely with senior people in government and relevant professional bodies. Their personal style will be appropriate for leadership of a professional membership organisation. It will be important to understand the requirements of a charity and current issues in transportation, but it is not essential to have had direct experience of either.
