CIHT has been active at this year’s Liberal Democrat Conference.
David Gillham, Immediate Past President attended the Connecting Britain Fringe Event Organised by Dods.
Dods and the Connecting Britain partners including CIHT, have been running a series of regional summits and parliamentary follow-up discussions throughout the year. These events have discussed local transport issues and each region’s connectivity with the rest of the UK.
This event at the Lib Dem Party Fringe put MPs and Stakeholders from Yorkshire, the West Midlands and the North West together to discuss the issues raised at the summits, the parliamentary roundtables and in their regions more generally.
The event itself provided a forum for debate where David presented CIHT views on issues including High Speed Rail, the importance of Integrated Transport and the Future Funding of UK Infrastructure.
There was heated debate on the role of local issues versus national and whether the use of PFI had a future. A full summary of the day will be available in due course and will be updated on this website.

About the project
Dods, in conjunction with its project partners, has undertaken research and organised a series of events to examine the importance and impact of infrastructure improvements in the UK. The project is looking at how the UK can better connect itself regionally, nationally and internationally to enhance economic prosperity.
They have looked at connectivity in terms of transport, but also more broadly through projects such as highspeed broadband. The project reaches out from London to look at the importance of developing better connectivity on a regional level. As part of this, they have run research and investigative events around the UK, before bringing the results back to policy makers in London for their input and feedback.
