CIHT attended the Big Bang Science Fair at the Excel Centre, London from 10 – 12 March. The Big Bang is the UK’s biggest Young Scientists & Engineers Fair and is a celebration of science and engineering for young people and aims to celebrate and inspire them.
The fair provided information for students who are interested in studying or starting a career in a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The fair featured displays and demonstrations of leading-edge technology, workshops and a special competition to showcase inspirational projects.
CIHT and the Transport Skills Forum, a group made up of a number of key partners and organisations from within the Highways & Transportation Sector, including Amey, Atkins, Colas, Mouchel, URS Scott Wilson and the Highways Agency took an exhibition stand at this year’s event. The focus point of the stand was a competition to encourage attendees to look at the way they travelled to the event and to calculate the amount of carbon that they would have used.
CIHT was on hand to offer guidance and advice to students and to encourage the growth of new talent within the engineering industry. This year featured an open day on the Saturday where parents could bring along their children to experience the event.
CIHT’s Director of Communications, Daniel Isichei said:
“Most students have no idea how varied the job opportunities are within engineering and how important engineers are to society. The Big Bang Fair is an excellent way of capturing young people’s attention and imagination and encouraging them to think seriously about a career in science and engineering.”
