CIHT Hong Kong is one of the supporting organisation of HKIUD Urban Design Week 2023 which took place on the week commencing 13th November. One webinar was conducted by Tanya MORAN and Tim JUDD of PJA on 16 November 2023 at the City University of Hong Kong focusing safe system in road safety, healthy street design check and case studies of pedestrian priority road and safe active streets.

The whole day Conference on “New Urban Mobility – Healthy Change in the High Density City” was held on 17 November 2023. The Conference provided us with valuable and inspiring speeches on various aspects of urban mobility – the Hong Kong airport city, future of urban air mobility and vertiport, development of railway transit, how to get better public transport on road and bus infrastructure, road safety in urban design, international best practice of city streets etc., followed by a roundtable discussion on well-being in mobility.

The half day post-Conference workshop was co-organised by CIHT Hong Kong, HKIUD, PJA and CHAUSSEES on 18 November 2023.  In the morning, the chair of CIHT Hong Kong, Raymond Pau gave a welcoming speech, then Phil Jones of PJA delivered a presentation around streets, dual function of link and place and design best practices.  It was followed by two rounds of roundtable discussions amongst stakeholders from Transport Department, urban designers, transport planners, operators, academia and representatives from institutions to deliberate new thinking for better design of roads and streets in Hong Kong – what needs changing, what is stopping us, what can be done strategically and ideas.

We are hoping that ideas in the post-Conference workshop could be put forwarded for consideration by the Chief Executive in his future policy address. If you would like to get involved with the CIHT Hong Kong group, please contact us at hongkong@ciht.org.uk
