CIHT are today hosting a stakeholder group for their latest guideline on designing for bus operation.
The guide will look specifically at design for bus operation (delivery in the context of an integrated network) in highways and streets but also promoting understanding of operational issues, the relationship with spatial planning, and integration with other modes. It will specifically address design requirements for bus operation to serve new developments. Good practice in network and service planning will also be covered.
It is aimed at those involved in the planning and delivery of urban change and development, including local planning, highways and transport authorities, developers and consultants, as well as operators of bus and other transit systems. It should be noted that this guide will not include issues of ownership, regulation and governance, which will be the subject of a separate CIHT document.
Tim Pharoah of the CIHT Urban Design Panel is lead author of the guide, supported by a peer review group.
