Today’s Highways Supply Chain Summit, attended by the Roads Minister Robert Goodwill, will be chaired by CIHT member, David Quarmby, at the Institution of Civil Engineers in London.
Following significant funding announcements in the 2013 Spending Review, the Department for Transport’s 'Action for Roads' - a paper which sets out the long-term vision for the road network from 2015 - and the proposed reforms to the Highways Agency, Government should provide the highways supply chain with the certainty required to invest in the resource and capability necessary to deliver in the long term.
The Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation have worked jointly with other institutions including the Institution of Civil Engineers to organise this important event which brings together key decision makers working in the highways sector to discuss the future of the supply chain.
Robert Goodwill will tell the audience that more than £24 billion is to be spent on upgrading and improving the network until 2021 and that this funding commitment will secure 30,000 new jobs across the construction sector.
Andrew Hugill, CIHT Director of Policy & Technical Affairs, said: “The Government must allow the Highways Agency to develop a robust pipeline of requirements for its supply chain in a form that allows the supply chain to innovate and invest over a period of time.“
