Members, Fellows, Associates, Graduates, Apprentices and Part Time Students keen on doing more to help represent their profession and promote the standing of the Institution are strongly encouraged to put their names forward as CIHT Council members.
In June 2023 there will be six vacancies for Ordinary Members of Council.
Council advises on the strategic and professional direction of the Institution, so by becoming a Council member you will be able to play an important role in shaping the future of the Institution for many years to come.
Being a Council Member is a job to be taken seriously, however it is also an enjoyable and rewarding experience, offering you the opportunity to give something back to the profession, and to meet and network with some interesting people.
Neil Johnstone, CIHT President, explains why someone should join Council:
As a membership organisation CIHT’s success relies on many well-oiled moving parts. At the heart of our Institution’s working is CIHT Council and I would urge members to consider joining this vital forum and helping us to serve our membership and sustain the acknowledged influence we have in our industry. Apart from the stated objectives of providing strategic and professional direction to the Board of Trustees, Council acts as a critical sounding board and provides an essential linkage with the membership in the Regions and Nations.
I can vouch for the fantastic opportunity that Council offers in terms of personal development and extending your personal professional network. CIHT has an exciting new “Strategy 2022+” to deliver and a focus on how to influence the crucial transport and climate agenda. Please give serious consideration to standing up for yourself and the profession by joining Council where all views are respected, and diversity is prized as a key to a progressive and inclusive culture.
Members wishing to submit their nominations need to complete a career profile and explain their ambitions for the future of CIHT. Click here to find out more, or you can email the Governance Team on governance@ciht.org.uk for more information.
Nominations will open on 14 November 2022 and must be supported by four fully paid-up voting members (Members, Fellows, Associates, Graduates, Apprentices and Part Time Students).
