The Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT) took part in a roundtable event at the House of Lords this week to help redefine the UK’s shared space.
CIHT were pleased to be invited to take part in the roundtable, which was hosted by Andrew Jones, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Transport, as part of a response to a debate in the House of Lords on this issue and as a result of the Holmes Report on ‘shared space’ published in 2015.
CIHT provided an update on the guidelines the Institution is currently producing which will seek to redefine shared space and set out new design processes to deliver improvements.
Andrew Hugill, CIHT Director of Policy and Technical Affairs, said: “We were pleased to attend the roundtable yesterday and discuss the work our team of members are doing to produce guidelines to better define shared space. It is clear that this is an important issue to a wide range of people who use our highways and that further guidance is needed.”
CIHT joined representatives from the Department for Transport, Disabled Persons Transport Advisory Committee, and members of the House of Lords.
