Highways maintenance specialist David Gibby has been inaugurated as President of CIHT for the year 2014/15. Mr Gibby received the chain of office from Past President Sheila Holden at a ceremony in London last week.
“It is a fantastic privilege and honour to be elected as President of CIHT,” he said. “I will do my best over the next year to serve the Institution well and repay the trust our members have placed in me.”
Mr Gibby’s Presidential theme for the coming year is ‘Making the Journey’ which has four key strands: supporting career development, making transportation more accessible, making journeys more reliable and making the case for transport in terms of the wider social and economic benefits it can bring.
“If we want to improve the services we provide we need certainty,” he added. “Certainty in planning, certainty in investment and certainty in political direction.”
David’s Presidential year will also support CIHT’s new membership recruitment campaign #journeys which aims to inspire new members to join the Institution and help it to reach 13,000 members.
Mr Gibby is the PFI director for Ringway and has had a long and varied career working in the public and private sectors and also as a consultant, contractor and service provider. He has been a member of the Thames & Chilterns Branch for 20 years and has chaired his local branch twice, most recently in 2007/08.
A feature about the life and work of CIHT President David Gibby will appear in the July/August issue of Transportation Professional.
