CIHT President Martin Tugwell and HKIHT President Ian Chung each signed a Memorandum of Understanding that will see the two organisations share knowledge, innovation and research.
The Hong Kong Institution of Highways & Transportation is a learned society comprising professional practitioners, academics and subject matter experts from highway engineering and transportation fields in Hong Kong. It turns 20 years old this year.
HKIHT already works closely with CIHT’s Hong Kong Regional Committee, which often organise technical events together. The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding will develop the strong relationship between the organisations even further.
After signing the Memorandum of Understanding, Martin Tugwell said he was delighted to welcome HKIHT’s President, members of its Council and members of its Young Committee to the UK and to CIHT. “As learned societies working together we can share experiences and learn together,” he said.
CIHT chief executive Sue Percy introduced delegates to the work of the Institution and its vision to support its members in delivering world class transportation infrastructure and services.
“We have a lot of things that I think we share in common,” she said. “We can exchange knowledge, we can look to do research together and we can be good international citizens and sister organisations.”
HKIHT President Ian Chung thanked CIHT for the hospitality and remarked: “We see a lot of commonalities between the two Institutions and ways in which we can help each other.
“The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding is the start of our next journey and I hope we can have more collaboration in terms of training, memberships and recognition.”
Following the signing, delegates from Hong Kong delivered an introduction to the HKIHT as well as discussion of transport infrastructure investment priorities and plans to implement electronic road pricing in the city.
CIHT Director of Policy & Technical Affairs Andrew Hugill spoke about the UK’s road network including focus on Road Investment Strategy 2, the Major Road Network and CIHT’s review Improving Local Highways.
The event closed with the exchange of gifts.
