After three years of joint working, Transport Scotland has launched (on 31 July), the public consultation on the new National Transport Strategy – Protecting our climate and improving lives.  The Strategy sets out the policies that will be pursued over the next twenty years to ensure that the transport system delivers on the four priority themes of promoting equality, protecting our climate, helping our economy prosper and improving our health and well-being.

As the twelve week consultation process gets underway, CIHT has been invited to help spread the word.  Neil Johnstone, Vice President of CIHT and a member of the CIHT Scottish Policy Forum said:  "The draft strategy makes some bold policy proposals to address the wide range of challenges facing transport now and in the future.".   Neil added that we should encourage members to to have their say.  So they can either respond directly or as part of a CIHT response, by emailing technical@ciht.org.uk with suggestions.

Mr Michael Matheson, Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Infrastructure and Connectivity, said "This draft strategy advocates a vision for Scotland’s transport system that creates great places – a sustainable, inclusive and accessible transport system which promotes prosperity, health and fairness for all of our citizens."
