The union connectivity review will provide independent advice to the government on how connectivity between the nations of the United Kingdom can 'support economic growth and improve quality of life'. The call for evidence that concludes on 30 December is one part of the review which is expected to publish its findings in the summer of 2021.

To inform CIHT's response to the review a survey has been created to get CIHT members' views. The survey will close on 16/12/2020.

You can take part in the survey here.

The questions asked in CIHT's survey:

  • Do transport links between countries need improved?
  • What are the key locations or key corridors that are particularly important to you (please note these can be within the country or cross-border)?
  • If you had to choose in terms of a focus from limited investment would you focus on improving existing infrastructure within a country, focus on cross border improvements or both are equally important.
  • Should there be greater clarity around technical standards and guidance across the UK?
  • Please give an example where a transport appraisal has led to a positive outcome?
  • What changes, if any, should be made to the transport appraisal system?
  • I think there should be a National Transport Strategy that sets out a vision for UK transport system for the next ~20 years
  • Should this review allow current infrastructure proposals to be reconsidered?

Please see here for the full details of the review.
