The Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT) is delighted to announce a new grade of membership – Graduate Membership (GradCIHT) – for people who have recently graduated from university and are looking to start work in the highways and transportation sector.

The new membership grade is tailored to meet the needs of graduate engineers and transport planners who are just starting their careers. CIHT offers young professionals access to industry best practice and mentoring by experienced professionals who already work in the industry, as well as support for young engineers seeking to become qualified as a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer or an Engineering Technician and transport planners seeking professional recognition through the Transport Planning Professional qualification.

To be eligible for Graduate membership, applicants must hold a UK degree, or equivalent, gained during the last 12 months, and be employed, or be actively seeking employment, in the Highways and Transportation sector.

Director of Education and Membership at CIHT, Sue Stevens, said: “The future of the industry depends on the calibre of the young people who choose to make a career in highways and transportation. This new grade of Graduate Member is designed to provide new entrants to the industry with the support they need to progress and develop as professionals.”

To take advantage of the experience and support of highways and transportation professionals, get engaged with CIHT locally through the Young Professionals groups in its regional branches, and attend technical and social events to develop your knowledge and build your network of contacts, go to: www.ciht.org.uk/Graduate or contact the Membership Team: membership@ciht.org.uk or 020 7336 1571.
