CIHT Chief Executive Sue Percy CBE and Public Affairs Manager Liberty Hibberd met with the Shadow Secretary of State for Transport, Richard Holden MP (MP, Basildon and Billericay) in Westminster on Tuesday 2nd June.
The meeting featured a wide-ranging discussion on the future of transport infrastructure, workforce skills, and the role transport plays in supporting economic growth and thriving communities.
CIHT highlighted the wider social and economic value of transport, noting its contribution to health outcomes, social inclusion, productivity, and economic growth. Discussions reinforced the importance of recognising transport as a critical enabler that supports a wide range of government objectives beyond the transport sector itself.
CIHT welcomed the opportunity to hear directly from the Shadow Transport Team about their key policy priorities and areas of concern.
Sue Percy CBE, Chief Executive of CIHT, said:
Transport is the thread that connects people, places and opportunities. It underpins economic growth, supports healthier communities and enables access to employment, education and essential services.
We welcomed the opportunity to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the sector and to share the expertise of our members who are delivering transport infrastructure and services across the UK every day.
CIHT looks forward to continuing to engage with the Shadow Transport Team and the wider Shadow Cabinet, to ensure that the UK’s transport network is fit for the future.
