Highway policy specialists, public transport experts and those with a thorough understanding of local authority administration are invited to put forward their views to an influential Parliamentary scrutiny body.
The House of Commons Transport Select Committee will this autumn host separate inquiries into the Government’s roads policy and how passenger transport is provided in isolated communities (pictured).
This will be followed later this year by another inquiry into local decision making on transport expenditure.
The Committee is calling for CIHT members with experience in each of the three areas to submit written evidence to help it with its inquiries.
Based on the information received the Committee will call a series of senior transport figures to Westminster to ask probing questions in order to gain a better understanding of particular issues. The Committee will then compile a report and come up with a series of recommendations for Government to consider.
Government’s recently published ‘Action for Roads’ document will be closely considered by the Committee in its review of current roads policy. Those with strong views about its content, or what it may lack, are invited to come forward.
Committee’s review of passenger transport provision in isolated communities will look not only at the scarcity of bus and rail services in remote rural locations but ask what can be done to improve public transport provision in peripheral urban areas as well.
And those who can shed some light on what changes in local authority administration mean for transport, such as Local Enterprise Partnerships and Passenger Transport Executives, are welcome to write in.
