CIHT today welcomed the new incoming government. The announcement of a formal coalition will provide the UK with a stable and functional administration that can commit to ensuring economic recovery.
Daniel Isichei, Director of Communications said:
‘This new administration provides us with the perfect opportunity for more cross party working. CIHT has previously called for an all-party consensus on a 20 year strategy to ensure that projects are sustainable, effective and delivered and we will be reaffirming this position.’
Any new administration is sure to be in a position where they will need to implement considerable funding reductions. CIHT believes that there is still a strong economic case for continued investment in transport infrastructure at both the strategic and local level. CIHT has identified a hierarchy of investment to ensure an effective use of any resource:
1) Maintaining and safely operating our network
2) Making best use of that network
3) Make targeted infrastructure improvements
CIHT has outlined key issues that should be considered and addressed by the new government in ‘2010 and Beyond’ a transport manifesto, which can be downloaded from the CIHT website here.
