Below is a summary of some of our policy and technical achievements over the year.
CIHT’s Policy and Technical team have:

Organised four technical events and held discussions on key transport issues in areas such as - resilience, road safety, funding for the local roads network and new models for collaboration in procurement and delivery.

CIHT and its Regions have produced over 20 responses to Governments, Parliamentary inquiries and consultations.
These included:

Responses to a number of National Infrastructure Commission calls for evidence.

Responses to Parliamentary and CCAV inquiries into autonomous vehicles.

Contributing to a number of built environment inquiries resulting in an appearance at the Women and Equalities Select Committee session on Shared Space.

Contributed to policy shaping/discussion on walking and cycling policy.

Offered our expertise to government to help shape policy development on key issues, such as the implementation of clean air zones in England and submitted evidence highlighting the issues faced by the local road network.

Took part as a key stakeholder with DfT and ORR in the monitoring and development of RIS1&2 on the Strategic Highway network in England.

Worked with the Department for Transport to review a number of Shared Space schemes, with the intention of producing recommendations on ways forward.

CIHT have also begun work on guidance for buses in new developments.

CIHT Scotland through the Scottish Policy Forum have worked closely with the Scottish Government on the review of the National Transport Strategy and provided a Scottish election briefing for members.
