Below is a summary of some of our policy and technical achievements over the year.
CIHT’s Policy and Technical team have:
- Aimed to draw together world class expertise to our events and try and capture the content of this to share more widely with CIHT members.
- Organised events and discussions on key transport issues in areas such as – Streets of the Future; Total Transport; Making the Case for Transport; and the Integration of Planning and Sustainable Transport.
- Supported insight into new developments with the Learned Society focusing on autonomous vehicles through the GATEway project
- Capture the knowledge and insights provided at these events and share this more widely members after the event. Recordings of events such as the Learned Society event and recent technical events on the Integration of Planning and Sustainable Transport and Making the Case for Transport are available in the CIHT members area to watch and listen to [see here for more]
- CIHT and its Regions have produced responses to key Governments, Parliamentary inquiries and consultations.
- Took part as a key stakeholder with DfT and ORR in the monitoring and development of RIS1&2 on the Strategic Highway network in England.
- Offered our expertise to government to help shape policy development on key issues, such as the implementation of clean air zones in England and submitted evidence highlighting the issues faced by the local road network.
- Continue to work with the Department for Transport to review a number of Shared Space schemes, with the intention of producing recommendations on ways forward.
- Finalised the development of guidance: ‘Buses in Urban Developments’ – due to be launched on 23 January 2018
- Worked on a range of podcasts to support members, including an international one with the Institute of Transportation Engineers (who CIHT have an MoU with), outlines key work by the UK Roads Liaison Group and the World Road Association and with academic organisations and in support of International Women in Engineering Day.
