CIHT supported International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) on Saturday 23 June celebrating the theme ‘Raising the Bar’. The annual event is dedicated to raising the profile of women in engineering and focusing on career opportunities for girls in the industry.
CIHT members have continued to engage in a range of activities promoting outreach to pupils, students and professional women in the sector.
CIHT educational and diversity related initiatives include promoting the role of STEM Ambassadors; creating an Innovative Women in Transport and Engineering Exhibition in Birmingham; recognising best practice professionalism and diversity through the CIHT Awards 2018 and encouraging members to sign the CIHT Diversity & Inclusion Charter. CIHT will also be developing additional Key Stage 2 Careers Activity for pupils ages 7-11 with a grant from the Rees Jeffreys Road Fund later this year.
Sue Percy, Chief Executive, CIHT said:
“At CIHT we support International Women in Engineering Day as it is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the important role played by women in highways and transportation. CIHT actively supports a number of activities around the country focusing on women in engineering. These include serving as STEM Ambassadors, promoting the Birmingham ThinkTank exhibition aimed at Key Stage 2 pupils; promoting the CIHT Diversity & Inclusion Charter and recognising sector leading best practice in the CIHT Awards 2018. These initiatives contribute to a concerted campaign to highlight opportunities available for women in the sector.”
