CIHT is looking for your views on the Government’s Draft Clean Air Strategy Policy officer Theo Naidoo says: “The Government was recently taken to court over its lack of action on air pollution and was forced to produce a plan to rapidly lower air pollution limits in key areas. An important part of that plan will involve dealing with the consequences of road transport, especially exhaust, brake and tyre pollutants.”

CIHT is currently putting together the Institution's response that will highlight a contradiction between this and other Government plans including Road Investment Strategy 2, Heathrow expansion, and the draft National Planning Policy Framework.

“We will make the case that the Government needs to take advantage of the opportunities that urban design and sustainable transport play in improving air quality,” he adds. 

CIHT is also responding to amendments to the Bus Services Act which will require bus service operators to provide more audio-visual information to disabled persons. This ties in closely to the technology agenda and debates about whether it is fair to require passengers to own smartphones to access information.
