Today (1 December 2025), sees the release of CIHT’s latest members only article ‘Mitigating the Risk of Suicide on the Road Network’, highlighting the role of the highways and transportation sector in public health and safety.
In September 2025, the UK Roads Leadership Group (UKRLG)- working with National Highways and suicide prevention experts including Samaritans- published new guidance to help highway authorities, bridge owners and infrastructure professionals identify and mitigate suicide risks across the UK’s road and bridge network.
The guidance emphasises that suicide is a preventable public health issue, and that timely, evidence-based and often low-cost interventions can save lives.
CIHT’s article summarises the key recommendations and aims to share learning across the sector, encouraging organisations to embed suicide risk assessment and prevention strategies into planning, design, maintenance and operations.
