2025 has been a transformative year for CIHT, marked by growth, innovation and influence. Responding to member feedback, CIHT strengthened its public affairs presence, positioning itself as a trusted voice in transport policy. The Institution engaged with several UK Transport Ministers and the Chancellor of the Exchequer, presented oral evidence to the Transport Committee, and was cited in Department for Transport research. CIHT also awarded an Honorary Fellowship to Professor Chris Whitty, relaunched its National Conference, and represented the sector at seven major national events.

Policy leadership was a key theme, with reports published on highway works, long-term funding for local roads, active travel investment, and climate resilience. International engagement saw a Presidential visit to Hong Kong and Malaysia, culminating in a landmark Reciprocal Recognition Agreement with the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers.
Member services expanded significantly, including a new mentoring platform, enhanced CIHT Learn courses, and the launch of an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion hub. These initiatives reflect our commitment to supporting professional development and sector innovation.
The UK transport sector faces rapid transformation, driven by planned local transport investment, decarbonisation targets, and digital innovation. CIHT will harness this momentum through policy influence, CPD support, and strategic partnerships.
Five highlights to watch:
We want to ensure that we provide you with the best possible service and support throughout your professional journey. As part of this commitment, we annually review our membership fees to ensure that we can continue to enhance the support, tools, guidance and resources you need. To maintain and grow our member services, CIHT’s Board of Trustees have decided to implement a modest fee increase from January 2026, excluding retired and concessionary rates which have been frozen at 2025 rates.
The changes will mean that from 1 January 2026, a Fellow practising in the UK will pay an extra £1.33 a month. For UK Members, there will be a change of £1.03 a month and a graduate member will pay an extra £0.32 a month. Members paying by annual direct debit receive a discount off the annual fee. Members will be able to pay their 2026 fees from Monday 1 December.
