Transport Scotland consulted on the new draft National Transport Strategy 2 (NTS2) to help determine whether the Strategy's Vision, Priorities and Outcomes are the right ones for our transport network for the next twenty years. The Scottish Policy Forum, a CIHT member-led initiative, responded to their recent consultation on the draft strategy. See CIHT's response here. 

CIHT strongly welcomes the production of a draft NTS2. It has been a key recommendation of CIHT to ask Governments to produce strategies for transport as a whole. Scotland is seen as leading on this front. The fact that the vision is built upon the recognition that transport is a key enabler and contributor to key policy areas is welcomed. The draft strategy that Transport Scotland consulted on contains four main elements, that Transport Scotland envisages that the transport system will contribute to. These are that transport will: Promote equality, take climate action, help our economy prosper and improve health and wellbeing. 

The collaborative way in which the strategy has been developed is further welcomed and CIHT appreciates the opportunity provided to contribute to the process from an early date. We are pleased to offer our continuing support in developing and implementing the strategy.

The next step for Transport Scotland will be to develop and publish a Delivery Plan, informed in part by the responses they have received. This will outline the actions that will be taken to achieve the vision and priorities from 2020 and build on the policies and enablers set out in the strategy.
