CIHT is inviting expressions of interest for a new Technical Champion with expertise in identifying and applying fiscal measures that account for transport’s full societal costs, including consideration of impacts on different groups.

As transport policy evolves, there is growing recognition of the need for fiscal approaches that reflect not only financial costs, but also wider social, environmental and economic impacts. This role will play a key part in helping CIHT develop evidence-based positions and thought leadership in this important and complex area.

About the role

As a Technical Champion, you will support CIHT by:

Providing expert insight on fiscal measures related to transport, including pricing, taxation, incentives and funding mechanisms

Helping to ensure that the full societal costs of transport are considered, such as environmental impacts, health outcomes, social equity and accessibility.

Highlighting how fiscal approaches affect different groups, including those with protected characteristics and people from different socio-economic backgrounds

Contributing to CIHT outputs such as policy briefings, consultations, events and technical guidance.

The role offers an opportunity to shape CIHT’s thinking, influence policy discussions, and support the Institution’s commitment to inclusive, sustainable transport.

Who should apply?

CIHT is keen to hear from members who have:

Professional or academic expertise in transport economics, public finance, pricing or related fields

Experience of assessing social, environmental and distributional impacts of transport policies

An interest in fairness, inclusion and long-term sustainability in transport decision-making

The ability to communicate complex technical issues clearly to a broad audience
