CIHT joined The Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety (PACTS) Road Environment Working Party on 20 May to share the findings of its report Progressing the UK towards Safe System implementation.
The report, published in November 2024, focusses on the challenges of implementing safe speeds and safe roads – two of the elements of the Safe System – in the UK. It highlights recommended actions for the UK Government that, if implemented, we believe will help reduce the number of people killed and seriously injured on UK roads.
CIHT was invited to share the findings with the Road Environment Working Party, which is one of four PACTS Working Parties. Its role is to advise PACTS on road environment matters and to help formulate policy and it comprises members from many sectors, including academics, local road safety practitioners and representatives of road user groups.
CIHT will also join a panel chaired by PACTS Deputy Director and CIHT Technical Champion Margaret Winchcomb on Embedding the Safe System Approach from Individual to National Level at Traffex on 22 May
