Institute of Transportation Engineers and Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation Sign Memorandum of Understanding

The Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) (based in Washington, DC) — and the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT), located in London, UK, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on April 20, 2017 as part of the ITE Board of Direction Meeting in Frisco, Texas, USA. This MOU sets the basis for cooperation and collaboration on matters of common interest relating to highways and transportation.

ITE and CIHT plan to collaborate on reciprocal memberships, promotion of applicable work across social media channels, co-branding of events and seminars, webinar and podcast creation, articles for ITE Journal and CIHT Transportation Professional, and facilitation of information sharing.

The first action of this MOU is a joint podcast on Transportation and Health that will be released tomorrow as part of the podcast series ITE Talks Transportation. The podcast, jointly moderated by Bernie Wagenblast and CIHT’s Justin Ward, will feature Lucy Saunders, Public Health Specialist, Transport & Public Realm with the Greater London Authority and Transport for London, and Dale Bracewell, manager of transportation planning with the City of Vancouver, BC, Canada, speaking about implementing health and transportation initiatives in their respective cities.

“We look forward to establishing a mutually beneficial and lasting collaboration with CIHT. Our two organizations have joint interests in the emerging areas of transportation and health, automated vehicles, and smart communities, to name just a few” said Jeffrey F. Paniati, ITE Executive Director and CEO.  “ITE is working to expand our global reach by building on our international membership base and establishing relationships with sister organizations, such as CIHT.”

“We are delighted to be able to announce this formal relationship between CIHT and ITE. We are looking forward to being able to develop this collaboration over the next few months. By partnering with complementary organisations such as ITE, we will be able to share initiatives, good practice and new ways of thinking between our organisations and our members” said Sue Percy, CIHT Chief Executive.

“This is a great opportunity for CIHT to expand our areas of operation and provide extended services to all of our members.”
