CIHT and the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) have signed a new reciprocal recognition agreement. This important partnership enables CIHT Chartered Engineers to apply for professional recognition as Corporate Members of HKIE, and for HKIE Corporate Members in the civils or logistics and transportation disciplines to apply to become Chartered Engineers (CEng) through CIHT.

This agreement updates and strengthens the relationship first established in 2014, reflecting the latest professional standards and expectations. CIHT and HKIE have thoroughly reviewed and confirmed that their membership requirements, assessment procedures, and professional standards are substantially equivalent. The agreement has been approved by the Engineering Council UK Quality Assurance Committee as a route to CEng, and by the HKIE Council.
CIHT already runs professional reviews for Hong Kong applicants applying for CEng and this arrangement provides an additional route for applicants who are already Corporate Members of HKIE.
Collaboration is a key value for CIHT, and it is through working together with our partners that we can achieve our objectives. We were really pleased to sign this reciprocal agreement on professional qualifications with the Hong Kong Institute of Engineers. This agreement will provide engineering professionals with the mutual recognition of our two organisations. It is a great honour to be able to sign this partnership with HKIE. “
“This agreement builds on the exiting relationship and updates the terms to reflect current professional standards and expectations.”
“The signing of this agreement does not only strengthen the global network of highways and transportation professionals, it will also increase professional mobility for highways and transportation engineers while enhancing their future career prospects.”
“This is a clear example of how our organisations have continued to work together to provide an improved service for the engineering professionals of today and the tomorrow.
CIHT believe that professional qualifications are essential if we are to fully realise the potential of our sector. By investing in the professionalism of members, we are able to support the highways, transportation and infrastructure sector to continuously improve and achieve high standards of work.
While CIHT has mutual recognition agreements with other international engineering institutions through the Engineering Council UK, this direct agreement with HKIE further strengthens the link between the two organisations.
