CIHT has signed up to the UKRC’s CEO Charter, which demonstrates a visible commitment to women in science, engineering and technology (SET).

By signing up to the Charter CIHT has pledged to:

  • Demonstrate support for the participation, at all levels, of women in SET
  • Highlight good practice
  • Develop and communicate the business case for gender equality
  • Develop clearly defined strategies and implement practices which encourage women to enter and progress in, or return to SET careers

CIHT is committed to promoting diversity in the highways and transportation industry and has a Diversity Panel devoted to addressing  issues and to provide support and strategic solutions.

Statistics released by the Engineering Council show that CIHT continues to outperform other institutions in its registration of female Chartered Engineers. 26% of CIHT’s members who became a Chartered Engineer in 2009 were female, compared with only 12% across all Engineering Council registrants.
