Last week, CIHT showed its dedication to Road Safety by supporting three speakers discuss this issue at Highways UK 2018.
Speaking on the first day of this event, Deborah Simms Senior Lecturer at University of Greenwich gave an introduction to the use and value of the safe systems approach to road safety and discussed how it had been implemented in the UK context. Deborah is a National expert on highways, a member of the CIHT Road Safety Panel and CIHT Vice President.
She was followed by Kate Carpenter who is well known in the industry for her knowledge and dedication to safer roads, she took part in a discussion about how we make the UK's roads the safest in the world.
On the second day CIHT's Road Safety Panel was represented by our newest member Katy Harrison who focused on Highways England's suicide prevention strategy, an area she has worked on before in her previous role at PACTS where she produced the report 'Suicides on UK roads: Lifting the Lid'. She discussed not only how to reduce the number of people who sadly take their lives but how to reduce the devastating impact it has when it does occur.
CIHT has a long history in supporting road safety initiatives through both the Society of Road Safety auditors (SoRSA) and our Road Safety Panel who are holding an event on the data behind road safety on the 5th December. Find out more on the event here.
