CIHT will be submitting a response to the Department for Infrastructure in Northern Ireland’s consultation on Moving Together: An Inclusive Mobility Framework.

The consultation seeks views on a proposed framework to place accessibility and inclusion at the heart of transport policy, planning, investment, and service delivery.

The draft framework sets out a vision for a transport system and public realm that enables everyone, regardless of age, disability or personal circumstances, to travel safely, confidently, independently and with dignity.

Addressing barriers to travel

The framework recognises that barriers to inclusive mobility extend beyond transport infrastructure. The experience of a journey can also be affected by the availability of accessible information, the design of transport services and vehicles, staff awareness, and the connections between different modes of transport.

It proposes a series of principles, strategic objectives and supporting actions to improve accessibility across transport services, streets, footways, public spaces and the wider built environment.

Although the framework focuses particularly on the needs of older, d/Deaf and disabled people, improvements to accessibility, safety and usability can benefit the wider population.

CIHT’s response will contribute to the consultation on how accessibility and inclusion can be embedded in transport planning, infrastructure design, and decision-making.

Have your say

The consultation is open until 5pm on 23 December 2026. If you would like to submit your views as part of CIHT's response, please complete this form by 5pm 11 November 2026.
