The Transport Committee has launched a new inquiry, ‘Getting to work: transport connecting young people to jobs and training’, exploring the role that transport plays in enabling young people to access employment, apprenticeships, education and skills development opportunities.  

The inquiry will consider the barriers young people face when travelling to work and training, including the availability, affordability, reliability and accessibility of transport services. It will also examine how transport policy and investment can help ensure that opportunities are accessible to young people across different communities and locations.  

CIHT will be submitting evidence to the inquiry and is seeking contributions from members and the wider highways and transportation community to help inform its response. 

Transport plays a vital role in connecting people with opportunities. For young people, particularly those without access to a car, gaps in public transport provision, high travel costs, or limited connectivity can create significant barriers to accessing jobs, apprenticeships and training. Ensuring that transport networks support inclusive access to opportunities is an important part of creating a fairer, more connected society.
