The Transport Committee has launched a new call for evidence to examine the barriers that women and girls face when travelling and how transport networks, infrastructure, planning and operations can better support safe, accessible and inclusive journeys. The Committee is seeking evidence on the experiences of women and girls across different modes of transport, the effectiveness of existing interventions, and the actions needed from government, transport authorities and the wider sector to improve personal safety.

CIHT will be responding to the consultation and is encouraging members to share their views and experiences to help inform the Institution’s submission.

CIHT welcomes the opportunity to contribute to this important inquiry. Creating transport networks that are safe and feel safe for everyone is fundamental to enabling access to employment, education, healthcare and leisure, while supporting healthier, more sustainable travel choices.

The Institution's response will build on its existing work to promote inclusive transport and place-making, including the Creating a Public Realm for All  report, which highlights the importance of designing, building and maintaining infrastructure that is accessible, inclusive and responsive to the needs of all users.

Members who would like to contribute views to support CIHT’s response are invited to complete this form by close of play 11 August 2026. If you have any queries, please contact technical@ciht.org.uk.

We will also be holding a drop in workshop to discuss CIHT’s response to the call for evidence on 19 August, please sign up here.

You can read the full consultation and submit a direct response here.
