CIHT has today launched its ‘Future for Highways & Transportation’ manifesto that outlines the Institution’s proposals and views on key issues affecting the industry today.
CIHT is taking this opportunity to highlight the vital role that investment in the UK’s Infrastructure will play in helping to move the economy out of recession. The Institution hopes to see this formally recognised in the Chancellor of the Exchequer’s Autumn Statement that will be announced at the end of November.
Sue Percy, CIHT Chief Executive said:
“Transportation is fundamental to the economic, social and environmental wellbeing of the community. Our society uses the highway network for a wide variety of purposes including work and leisure activities. It enables long and short distance movement of people and goods, access to other transport modes such as rail, air and sea, and is a conduit for delivery of water, energy, information and waste. It provides links to community meeting places and is fundamental to the creation of a quality street scene.”
“The Future for Highways & Transportation” outlines the key areas where the Institution believes UK Governments can make a real difference. CIHT is keen to explore how UK Governments, in combination with industry, can help to implement the ideas suggested in this manifesto, and is willing to enter into more dialogue to examine how, in addition to its current initiatives, this can be done.”
Policy areas that the manifesto also covers include:
