Message from the Chair of CIHT UAE, Richard Lewis

The past quarter has been one of real progress for CIHT UAE. We have established our financial systems, opened our UAE bank account, and prepared cost plans to guide us over the coming years, giving us the stability to grow with confidence.

We have opened up new channels of collaboration with CIHT headquarters at Britannia Walk, ensuring strong links between our regional activity and the Institution’s global voice.

On the events side, we are moving into a hybrid format to widen access, with a full calendar already in place through 2026 and site visits being organised to add a practical dimension. Our social media presence has also grown rapidly, with LinkedIn engagement at record highs under a more structured plan.

At the same time, we have advanced our sponsorship framework to secure the support needed to expand activities and deliver greater value to members. We are also pleased to confirm the appointment of a Chair for our new Transport Advisory Panel and look forward to commencing discussions in the coming months as we fill the team and complete its establishment.

Together with our committee and members, I am excited about the journey ahead. Going forward, our priority is to strengthen collaboration with institutions such as the RTA and expand our footprint across the GCC. With strong foundations in place, CIHT UAE is ready to deliver even greater value for members and for the profession.

Highlights in this edition

Fellowship Honour for Eng. Hussain Al Banna and Launch of Transport Advisory Panel

CIHT UAE was honoured to present Eng. Hussain Mohamed Al Banna, Chief Executive Officer of the Traffic and Roads Agency at Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), with his Fellowship by Invitation, the Institution’s highest grade of membership. The presentation was made by Richard Lewis, Chair of CIHT UAE (and Director at Transpo Group), alongside Saad Al Asady (Expert-Traffic Department, RTA) and Tawab Kazemi, CIHT Membership Officer (and Managing Director, 4e Road Safety & Transport Consultants).

Eng. Hussain graciously accepted the fellowship, becoming the first GCC citizen, to be awarded the coveted CIHT Fellowship the Institution’s highest level of membership, a distinction held by only a very limited number of professionals worldwide.

Ordinarily, Fellowship requires a detailed application and assessment process. To be awarded by invitation is a rare distinction, reserved only for a select few whose leadership and achievements are so widely recognised that they have already fulfilled all that is expected at the very highest level of the profession. On average only 1 or 2 are invited per year.

CIHT UAE is also pleased to announce the formation of the Transport Advisory Panel, which will be chaired by Eng. Hussain. This high-level forum will bring together senior leaders from government departments across the UAE to provide strategic insight on regional transport priorities.

UOWD becomes venue sponsor

The University of Wollongong in Dubai has been supporting CIHT UAE since 2019.

Many students from the University have joined the society as members and experience the benefits of professional association. The University is happy to run regular subject focused seminars supporting student learning and engagement with this technical field.
