On 29th September Andrew Hugill, CIHT Director of Policy and Technical Affairs and Andy Burton, Yorkshire and The Humber Chair visited Leeds College of Building where Andrew gave an informative talk to Student Apprentice from various disciplines on how the Institution can support them both during and after their course. The talk was followed by a question and answer session with particular emphasis on the students who are taking the Transportation Planning Technician Apprenticeship. Some of the apprentices had just returned from a visit to Germany, The Netherlands and Belgium to look at how those countries deal with Transport Planning and in particular non-motorised users. Andrew asked some good questions around cycling and the apprentices gave some very knowledgeable answers.

In the afternoon Andrew and Andy visited the A1(M) Lemming to Barton Scheme which is a £400m road improvement scheme in North Yorkshire which is almost complete and completes the upgrade of the A1 Dual 2 lane to a D3M standard highway.  The visit included a visitor safety induction, a brief on the scheme followed by a visit onto the site to look at the works which have been carried out and look at some of the works currently being carried out around two bridge locations.
