Emma Carruthers comes from an EDI, learning & development and public health background with experience across a range of sectors including charity and public. She is passionate about all things EDI related which is a huge area and requires real tenacity and focus in accelerating meaningful progress. 

Emma said:

I’m thrilled to join CIHT as the EDI Manager – a brand new role which demonstrates CIHT’s genuine commitment to taking forward our Shifting the Dial five-year equality, inclusion and diversity strategy at pace and scale. I look forward to working with our members in driving positive change.

In my new role, I am the point of contact for members, partners, stakeholders and CIHT colleagues regarding EDI issues and challenges, with a focus on creating an environment where reflection and constructive learning is fostered and celebrating some of the great practices going on in the sector already.

At CIHT, we believe that EDI isn’t something that is an optional extra or ‘someone else’s job’ – it’s business critical across our respective workplaces and aligned to our business strategies and corporate values.

We are working hard to expand the diversity of our membership and support the creation of an industry-wide talent pool that reflects the diverse communities that use the transport network.

We want to foster genuine inclusion and help organisations to reap the rewards in terms of funding, business performance and increased market share that a more diverse and inclusive workforce can offer.
