Rt Hon Keir Starmer MP (Lab, Holborn and St Pancras) has delivered his final speech as Prime Minister and Leader of the Labour Party.

Rt Hon Andy Burnham MP (Lab, Makerfield) has been elected Leader of the Labour Party by the party’s National Executive Committee and will be invited by His Majesty King Charles III to form a government.

CIHT extends its thanks to Rt Hon Keir Starmer MP and the Starmer Government for their commitment to improving the condition of England’s highways network, enhancing active travel, strengthening connectivity, and supporting economic growth since the 2024 General Election.

The incoming Prime Minister is expected to undertake a ministerial reshuffle and appoint members of the Cabinet in the coming days.

CIHT will write to the new Prime Minister and the incoming Government, building on its recent advocacy efforts to emphasise the importance of maintaining transport and transport infrastructure as national priorities.

The Institution will continue to advocate for sustained investment and long-term policy that ensures the UK’s transport networks are resilient, efficient, and fit for the future.

Transport and transport infrastructure are fundamental enablers of economic growth, national resilience, and the transition to net zero.

Delivering these outcomes requires sustained commitment and cross-government support over successive administrations.
