Held at the Aston University Conference Centre on the 26th April, the sold out event attracted over 150 delegates from across the UK.

From stimulating panel discussions and interactive workshops to captivating keynote speeches, the conference offered a diverse range of opportunities for personal and professional development.

Keynote speeches explored environmental sustainability, net zero highways, stakeholder engagement, climate action and professional qualifications. The speeches not only enlightened the audience but also sparked engaging conversations, prompting attendees to think critically about the role they can play in shaping the future of the industry. 

Participants had the chance to connect with like-minded professionals and build valuable relationships. The conference also featured a dedicated exhibition area giving delegates the chance to have discussions with the event sponsors Atkins, Carrington West, Kier, Mott Macdonald and WSP.

Additionally, the conference agenda included several breakout sessions tailored to the specific needs and interests of emerging professionals. From digitalising our transport systems and the role emerging professionals can play in delivering this vision to career advancement strategies, the sessions covered a wide range of topics aimed at equipping attendees with the tools and knowledge necessary to excel in the sector.

This was my first attendance at the Emerging Professionals Conference and I can see how it sold out! With a fantastic array of speakers and sponsors and, of course, the delegates, it made for a vibrant, engaging day and is undoubtedly a highlight of my Presidential Year. I just loved speaking with so many of the delegates and hearing of their ambitions and concerns for the profession. With so many excellent presentations and good questions, I’ll admit chairing it was a challenge as we tried to live up to our aim of maximising delegate participation.
